What is Formula Student Romania?
Formula Student Romania is the international competition that transforms the Speed Park circuit in Bacău into a hub of automotive engineering. It’s not just a race, but an event where universities from around the world bring their single-seaters to be evaluated by experts. The Formula Student Team UTM chose to attend the 2023 edition to study the competition rules up close. It’s the ideal place to see firsthand what performance engineering is all about.
Why did we choose volunteering over direct participation?
The Formula Student UTM team chose to be present in Bacău from the very beginning of our project, opting to serve as volunteers to accelerate learning. Instead of waiting for our own single-seater to be completed in the workshop, we decided to take immediate action to gain knowledge directly from within the competition. This experience gave us a rare insight into how static and dynamic events are organized, paving the way for our future debut on the track.
What did we discover behind the scenes of Technical Inspection?
Our participation gave us the chance to closely study the Scrutineering process (a rigorous technical “audit” through which officials ensure that the single-seater is safe for the driver and strictly complies with international regulations), the moment where precision meets regulation.
Our focus was on the international judges’ evaluation criteria and on analyzing the technical solutions adopted by veteran teams. This accumulation of technical knowledge and expertise is now a huge advantage for the Formula Student Team UTM, giving us the clarity needed to design a chassis and systems that meet the highest standards of safety and performance.
What is the Formula Student Team UTM’s mission for next year?
Bacău 2023 was the moment when we set a clear goal: to build the first Formula Student car at the Technical University of Moldova.
Everything we saw and learned at Speed Park is now the foundation of our project. We returned home determined that at the next edition, we would no longer be just volunteers, but the team proudly representing the flag of the Republic of Moldova on the starting grid.
Our goal is clear: to return to the international circuit not just as observers, but as a competitive team.
