What is Chișinău Maker Faire?
Chișinău Maker Faire is Moldova’s largest festival of creativity, innovation, and inventiveness, a place where “makers”—from engineers and artists to technology enthusiasts—showcase their handmade projects. The June 10, 2023 edition, held at FabLab Chișinău, inside Tekwill, brought together hundreds of visitors eager to discover the future of local technology. It was the perfect context for our team to take the decisive step – the official launch.
What was the purpose of participating in the Chișinău Maker Faire festival?
For the Formula Student UTM team, participating in this festival meant our public debut. We were starting; we didn’t have a race-ready car yet, but we had the passion and desire to prove that Moldova can build a single-seater race car. Although the project was still in its early stages, we presented to the community the foundations on which we are building the future.
What is our goal?
The Formula Student UTM team’s mission is to prove that local engineering can compete internationally, transforming university theory into performance on the track. On June 10, 2023, we decided to open the doors of our workshop at the largest innovation festival in the country — Chișinău Maker Faire.
What did we do at the Maker Faire 2023 festival?
During the festival, we were involved in:
- Exhibiting the first parts:
We presented the fundamental elements of the single-seater, giving the public the chance to see the “skeleton” of the car, the chassis, and the precision components we manufactured.
- Design demonstrations:
We showed visitors the creative process behind the parts, from 3D modeling on the computer to their transformation into tangible objects.
- Recruitment and Networking:
We interacted with hundreds of enthusiastic young people, explaining how they can get involved and why this project is a launch pad for any future engineer.
We used the event to collect feedback and attract the attention of potential technical partners, demonstrating that a group of dedicated students can turn a dream into metal and speed.
What was the result of participating in Maker Faire Chișinău 2023?
For those of us who were at the Formula Student UTM stand, Maker Faire 2023 was not just an exhibition, but a real test of our passion. After this event, we took with us the confidence that it can be done and renewed motivation. This experience welded us together as a team and transformed our desire to continue.
